I took a walk on the Burren with my husband and two sons, aged 8 and 12 and a small group along with our guide Tony Kirby. Tony’s intimate knowledge of the flora, fauna, geology, ecology and history interspersed with poetry and humour brought this magical landscape of ancient seabed to life. The evidence of fossils and life millions of years ago, and the juxtaposition of the orchid, alpine and arctic flora could easily be missed but for Tony’s guidance. To quote my 12 year old, ” This was the best walk I have ever been on “. We’ll be back and the sooner the better.

My husband and I were delighted with the walk led by Tony on the 17th of June, 2010, our first time in the Burren. His pace was leisurely, and he was available to answer all of our questions. We learned much about the geology and ecology of this region, as well as the history of the Burren.
The attention to the wildflowers was especially interesting to me. Living in Florida, I had no idea that orchids could be so tiny and still magnificent! Tony engaged the group so that we could learn from one another as well as from him, creating a sense of community in just one afternoon.
Thanks, Tony, for an unforgettable experience!

Our walk with you was the highlight of our visit to County Clare. We had a foreign, remote experience on our own island!

Spent the most informative and relaxing afternoon with Tony last week. We were a group of 7 – ages ranging from 8 to 79 years old. The walk was suitable for all and thoroughly enjoyable. I would highly recommend Tony, he is a minefield of knowledge and so easy to understand for both adults and children. Well done Tony and may you continue to share your knowledge and passion for the Burren. Hope to see you soon. Thanks again from The Gemmell, Browne and Fitzgerald families.

An excellent and information-packed guided tour of the Burren. It wasn’t just a tour, it was a complete emotional experience.
We’ve told everyone that if they go to Ireland, they must take your tour.

Thank you for the two lovely walks we enjoyed with you on St Patrick’s day and on Sunday. We all three enjoyed them immensely. The landscape was breathtaking, awe-inspiring. We felt part of a reality, that is, in the words of Seamus Heaney (you so appropriately quoted) just “Keeping Going” as we are passing through. You made the walks so interesting with your knowledge of the history of the area, the flora, architecture , eco-system and poets. Kathleen at the Burren Wine and Food was so hospitable with her coffee and freshly baked scones for us, thank her for us. I will most certainly recommend your walks to any visitors I have from overseas and will be down soon myself when I return from the Camino.
